Tech giants like HTC, Samsung and Sony have revealed their flagship Smartphones for 2014 with the names of One M8, Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 respectively. Every handset comes loaded with amazing features and has stylish looks. Let’s compare their specs with each other and find out which should you buy?
Price and Availability
The good thing is that all three impressive Android handsets are now available at all mobile stores. HTC launched its latest flagship device, the One (M8), for Rs 49,900. The aggressive pricing has made an impact already, with Samsung lowering the Galaxy S5′s price to about Rs 47,000 but no doubt the price of all three Smartphones will come down within a couple of months.
The One (M8) is crafted with all-metal body, the Sony Xperia Z2 flaunts its Omni balance design, a unique construction with a layer of glass covering the body. On the other hand the Samsung Galaxy S5 introduces with a more conventional design, keeping it simple, but thanks to the perforated back panel, it makes its own identity. In terms of design, we find the HTC One (M8) to be the slickest of the lot.
Talking about the screen size, every handset feature full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, but since One (M8) is the smallest (5-inch), it offers slightly improved pixel density as compared to other two. Sony Xperia Z2 boasts a 5.2-inch screen while the Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch unit. The Galaxy S5 gets an AMOLED display; the Xperia Z2 gets an IPS LCD, while the HTC One (M8) uses a SuperLCD3 unit.
The HTC One (M8) is backed by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC, the Xperia Z2 by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801, and the Galaxy S5 (the version sold in India) gets its power from an octa-core Exynos 5422 SoC. Both the Xperia Z2 and One (M8) use Andreno 330 GPU, while Samsung uses ARM Mali GPU. Both the Galaxy S5 and One (M8) come with 2 GB of RAM, but the Xperia Z2 boasts 3GB of RAM. Here, the Sony Xperia Z2 wins hands down.
HTC One (M8) possesses its Ultrapixel technology, with improved low light imagery and the ability to ‘refocus’ after clicking the picture. The Galaxy S5 comes loaded with 16-megapixel camera also comes with refocusing magic, but the Samsung claims to offers the fastest auto focussing system among camera-phones. While the Xperia Z2 sports a 20.7-megapixel primary snapper, which lacks in the refocusing feature but produces pleasant results straight out of the camera. It packs image stabilization as well.
The Sony Xperia Z2 has the most powerful battery among the three. At 3,200mAh, it’s larger than Samsung’s 2,800mAh and HTC’s 2,600mAh units. Given that Samsung boasts of a power-saving mode, that can hugely extend the back-up talks in favor of the Galaxy S5, but in outright capacity, the Xperia wins.
The HTC One (M8) is paired with 16 GB of internal memory, with expandability of up to 128 GB using microSD card. The Samsung Galaxy S5 offers identical storage as the HTC too. The Xperia comes with 16 GB of internal memory and is expandable up to 64GB.
All three flagship devices run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but none of them is stock. The Xperia Z2 gets Sony’s UI, the Galaxy S5 gets the new TouchWiz, and the One (M8) gets HTC Sense over Android. While it comes down to what you prefer, but HTC Sense with Blinkfeed looks like the most impressive of the three here.
Well, there is no doubt the all three Smartphones are improved versions of their predecessors and offers exceptional features and better looks, they also sports some fabulous characteristics that makes the three distinct from each other. The S5 is a well defined Smartphone but is let down by it processor and plasticky looks. The One (M8) has stunning looks and paired with all the hardware specs but the innovative Duo camera fails to impress. The Xperia Z2 is also a nice Smartphone with strong battery backup but some reviews suggest it is not much of an upgrade over the Xperia Z1.
